The new “net metering ” provisions in MA means old and new customers have to file Schedule Z to assure their export credits to the local utility are properly compensated. This is one of many beneficial changes for PV in the new tariff regulations for Utility Interactive installations which went into effect Jan 1st, 2010. There is some confusion and bumps in the road as utilities and customers adapt but these will be straightened out over the next months. It’s as important that clean energy production credits are fairly valued as it is an accurate record of sites and their production is kept. We’re helping our customers by explaining the intricacies to fill out Schedule Z forms. Western Mass Electric Co. has reached out to us to assure none of our customers are neglected or assigned with their credits to an inappropriate category. Its a a sign of the maturity of both the PV industry and the utilities here in Massachusetts that we have reached this level of net metering progress. It could not have been done with out the hard work of public servants in all branches aiming for innovative clean energy policy and guiding the process of accountability.
