In July, a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was released with critically important facts about the concerns and impacts of climate change for the near future. There is one big takeaway from this report; our only chance at reducing the impact of climate change is to significantly decrease the amount of emissions released from dirty energy sources like oil, coal, and gas. We can only do this by switching to renewable energy sources and working together on a global scale to meet this goal.
Solar is going to play a major role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. After the IPCC report was released, the DOE posted a memo with a summary of the clean electricity goal of the Biden Administration, with the focus on solar energy. Despite the impacts from the Pandemic in 2020, the U.S. installed almost 20 GW of solar energy. This was the largest yearly total ever and is a great indicator for the growth in solar as a renewable energy source. Check out the memo released by the DOE here.
